The 1st Ever TrashyPantz Boycott

For all that is good and holy, and as a child of the 80's, I am begging and pleading that all friends and readers of TrashyPantz boycott the new CBS show Rock Star INXS.
The show is a contest to find the new lead singer of INXS, the original lead singer, Michael Hutchence, killed himself in November 1997.

Here is how CBS explains it:
"Rock Star:INXS" is a show about a lot of things. It's about a group of young musical artists trying to fulfill their dreams. It's about the joy of performance and the difficulty of competition. But most of all, it's about finding the next incarnation of one of the greatest rock bands in history."
BAH! GARBAGE, I SAY!

I mean, you can't just replace Michael Hutchence! INXS last played at the opening of the Sydney's Olympic Stadium and used singer Terence Trent D'Arby for that appearance (You can't replace Michael Hutchence with a one hit wonder who takes 10 hours to have his hair briaded by 4 women, and expect to do justice to Suicide Blonde. It's just not possible).

The irony in all this, is one of the contestants names is... DANA. This makes me extremely angry, by the way. So once again, for all that is good in the world, and for all the reasons I still cling to this 80's band...please, PLEASE watch something else, anything else, when this show starts this summer. THANKS!!!!

If you agree to boycott "Hit Me Baby One More Time" and that ballroom dancing show then we have a deal.

i'm sorry, but as much as i made fun of the ballroom show, i found myself with nothing to watch one wed. evening...and actually found myself sucked in. now whether it was joey mcintyre or the 'wardrobe malfunction' of the busty soap opera girl, i'm not sure...

Hi TrashyPantz,

Calling TTD a "one-hit-wonder" makes me wonder how you could have missed his many hits and great albums.
To name just a few:
Wishing Well
Sign Your Name
Dance Little Sister
Delicate
She Kissed Me
Let Her Down Easy
Holding On To Me

And for you information, he didn't even sing "Suicide Blond" at the opening of the Olympic Stadium ;)

Here's what's on INXS site about it at:

Gigs
12 June 1999 - Stadium Australia, Sydney, NSW, Australia

Releases
None. Although full show and accompanying documentary was broadcast nationwide in Australia.

The next step INXS took in their "rebirth" was to perform at the opening of the new Stadium Australia in Homebush 12 June 1999 with Terence Trent D'Arby as guest vocalist. The American singer assumed Michael's spot for this one-off mini concert celebrating the completion of the facility that was to host the 2000 Olympics. 'New Sensation', 'Kick', 'Never Tear Us Apart' and 'What You Need' were dispatched to the 90,000-strong audience to much support and enthusiasm. Terence put his unique stamp on the INXS hits, but even though some fans grumbled that he was not a good fit, the event proved to be an indication of things to come - INXS could and would continue! A one-hour documentary was made from the rehearsals and the performance and aired around the world during 1999. Called Never Tear Us Apart, the doco whetted the appetite for more INXS, and clued the band's many fans that special things were possible to do even though Michael Hutchence was lost forever.

"I got a chance to sit, temporarily, in the driver's seat of a great musical vehicle, I got a chance to witness first hand the chemistry and regard for one another's humanity that it takes to keep a band together for over 30 years. Every day I worked with some of the finest songs of my generation, every day I got to work with one of the greatest, funkiest drummers in Rock History. I thank them for the great time they showed me and for the rejuvenating effect it had on my spirit at the time." - Sananda Maitreya (aka TTD), 2003

If you're curious to his latest new album "Angels & Vampires", you're free to come over to his site to listen to it :)
